Featured artist: Godhand Black - HIP-HOP LOVERS: The Next Amazing Rapper Has Arrived!
Below is a short interview with the upcoming underground artist Godhand Black.
How did you decide to become an artist?
Godhand Black: I started rapping way back in the day. The artists that first inspired me to pick up the mic were Pete Rock & C.L. Smooth, YZ, A Tribe Called Quest, and Arrested Development. I started out performing on the talent show circuit and cross-genre all-ages shows back when I was in high school. I graduated from Full Sail University with a degree in audio engineering and I do most all of my work in-house right now. Before I started rapping, I had taken piano, guitar, and violin lessons and sang in choirs. Music has always been a part of my life.
Develop a disciplined routine for practicing your craft and keep grinding.
What about concerts? Do you play live?
Yes, I’ve performed a few hundred shows in several states. I’m hoping to do a European tour in 2015 and an African tour once the ebola travel scare is over. I’m also open to swapping gigs with other rappers, bands,DJs, or other performers.
Best punchline you ever wrote?
I’ll have ya momma gyratin’ and masterbatin’ on tables, able to snatch fifties between her titties, you ain’t wit-me/
What are you currently working on? Did you release something in the past?
I’m working on building my team. I’ve reached the limit of self-management and its time to take it to the next level. I released 9 successful mixtapes so far this year and I just won LEO Weekly’s 2014 Reader’s Choice Award for Best Hip-Hop Artist. I’ve also won a few ReverbNation song contests this year. I’m currently working on an album and working as sound mixer on a horror movie called ”Voodoo Gold”.
Last but not least: Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Yes, if the terms are right. I’m also open to working with independent labels, too. While being signed to a label pays a smaller percentage than self-releasing, it frees the artist from having to juggle the administrative functions of running a record label on top of their creative functions as an artist. Labels can contact me through Twitter, ReverbNation, or Soundcloud (on Twitter, tweet me instead of DMing me for quicker response).
