Below is a short interview with the upcoming underground artist Shawn_Twon.

How did you decide to become an artist?

Shawn_Twon: Well I've always been in love with music. My mom bought me a Walkman when I was about 7 and could never put that thing down. I heard all different types of music and a lot of what is considered now old rap music. I heard all those guys telling their stories through there music and I wanted to do the same.

Always stay true to your craft is the probably the best advice I've ever received as an artist because a lot of people tell me my style of rap is old and out dated but this is my lane and where I'm most comfortable. I'm telling my story and giving you different parts of me through my music. So if I switched up it wouldn't be me. So no matter what I stay true to my vision for my music no matter what others may think.

What about concerts? Do you play live?

Yes! I've only had one performance as I am a new artist but I definitely enjoyed it. It was a great experience.

Best punchline you ever wrote?

That's hard man I've written so much stuff and it would hard to just pick one.

What are you currently working on? Did you release something in the past?

Right now I'm just working on getting some exposure. I have a lot of songs that I wrote while incarcerated so I'm working on finding beats for them and trying to put together some new material also. I'm just grinding really. I've released two songs so far. Story to tell on SoundCloud and Feel it in the air on YouTube. Both can be found by searching Shawn_Twon and name of song.

Last but not least: Would you sign a record contract with a major label?

Well I'm still learning the business side of the industry but from what I do know, making it as an indie artist is a lot more lucrative on the back end but it's a harder route to success. The major labels have great promotion teams and the money to do whatever you need done. It seems from my perspective a lot of artist eventually go their own way and become independent or get their on labels at some point. The major labels definitely helped get you noticed. It's really all about your negotiation skills. If you can get the things you want from a major label without compromising yourself or selling your soul then go for it.

Any last words?

No question!!! I'm repping SE Washington DC. This is where all my inspiration and motivation come from. Shoutout to my set Big 30, BVT we up next!
