Featured artist: Nene B. - West Coast Female Rapper
Below is a short interview with the upcoming underground artist Nene B..
How did you decide to become an artist?
Nene B.: I decided to become an artist because I've been into music my whole life. I actually started out writing poems growing up and that turned into me rapping. There isn't an artist that sounds like me or look like me.
The best advice I was given as an artist is to stay focused. I was told to never change to make anybody feel comfortable. I was also told to promote myself and never stop networking.
What about concerts? Do you play live?
I've never played live or given a concert, but I'm looking into a manager to book me for shows. I know I can do it without a shadow of a doubt.
Best punchline you ever wrote?
I see the snakes, I smell the hating I observe shit while I'm calculating.
What are you currently working on? Did you release something in the past?
Currently, I'm working on dropping my single and music video next month. My single will get a little radio play. I will be following up with my debut album.
Last but not least: Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
I'm actually signed to a distribution deal called DubCNN Ent through Empire. A Compton, LA artist by the name of West Haven actually signed me and I'm so thankful for him. I'm not close minded to signing with a major label. I think that the pros to signing would be that you are heard global, you can travel the world, and take care of your family. I think the cons are that you can possibly not be in control of the music you put out, the people you want to work with, and the image you are comfortable with.
Any last words?
I want to give a shout out to my family and my West Adams family. A special shout out to my mother Sherrie, my big sister Shadei, my uncle Gary, my auntie Meka, my mentor WestHaven, my brother Lil Man, Tiny KB, Lil Bit,Lil Slim,Baby A Dog,Mad Ron, AMG the label and anybody else rooting for me. The city I'm representing is South Central, Los Angeles.
