Featured artist: Ace DeNiro - Welcome to the dark side…
Below is a short interview with the upcoming underground artist Ace DeNiro.
How did you decide to become an artist?
Ace DeNiro: I was always freestyling and people would say I was good at it and that I should rap but I never took it into serious consideration. Around 2013 I was in jail with a local big name rapper, he heard me freestyling one morning and I guess was somewhat impressed because he invited me to record with him upon our release, that was basically the beginning for me
The best advice I've been given so far as an artist is never let someone tell you how to create your own art. Not everyone is going to like what you create or understand it so you can't let it discourage you or hinder your creative ability. To always be true to ones self and never be afraid or apologetic about it.
What about concerts? Do you play live?
Yes I have performed live once. The crowd was very receptive, it definitely went better than I had expected. Once you realize people paid to watch you perform brings a sense of admiration, like jay z said "you could have been anywhere else in the world right now, but you're here with me, and I appreciate that"
Best punchline you ever wrote?
"In the game of life it doesn't matter whose the hardest, survival of the fittest victorious is the smartest, knowledge equals power but anger will leave you starving the hate will manifest now you're right back where you started"
What are you currently working on? Did you release something in the past?
I'm currently working on a few projects, I had planned to drop my first mixtape " the dark side" in April but I was recording so much music so fast I decided I wanted to take a bombardment approach and drop them all simultaneously instead of the norm. I have a few singles and visuals I released previously but those Arendt teasers from my upcoming projects
Last but not least: Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Honestly not unless it's roc nation or g.o.o.d. music. I feel those labels were created by artists so you have more freedom to create and be yourself. From what I've been told by numerous people already industry tested is that it's best to stay independent because most labels give out horrible deals and keep artists from receiving money they are deserved and that they shelf you then reap off your catalog and profit off it
Any last words?
I wanna give a shout out first to my family, my son and my wife for keeping me focused and being the motivation and giving me the determination to even play this game, I wanna give a shout out to all my homies back home Miguel, frost, Castro, Johnny boy, I wanna shout out my Florida homies lump sum, 40 Luciano, Carter Grady, tony the pretty boy, Izzy, the homie white chocolate, ace boogie, IDMG camp, and the we all we got ENT camp. I was raised in Florida, but Brooklyn will always be home. But I'm repping for every hood everywhere because no matter where you go every hood is the same. This is for the voice-less and the have nots.
