Featured artist: KAY.MJ - A young boy on the come up
Below is a short interview with the upcoming underground artist KAY.MJ.
How did you decide to become an artist?
KAY.MJ: I decided to become an artist because I fell in love with music ever since my dad exposed me to it at a young age. My dad used to be a DJ in NYC not a popular one but a Pretty good DJ I have always been around music my whole life I guess I just decided to go a different lane with it.
The best advice that was given to me as an artist was stay focused & keep grinding also never let anyone discourage me from from perfecting my craft.
What about concerts? Do you play live?
I haven’t yet but i would love too perform i’m still trying to get into that.
Best punchline you ever wrote?
I’m just a cool n*gga till you piss me off I go to war let n*gga try me his outline on the f*cking wall bang!!
What are you currently working on? Did you release something in the past?
Right now i’m currently working on my new mixtape called The East Coast is Back Vol.1 hosted by Big Mike The Ruler. I have released two mixtapes in the past wich i didn’t know how to promote so the didn’t get me any where & I also released a video to Midwest inspired track a month or two ago you can find it on youtube it’s called Hood Life.
Last but not least: Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
I would if they are offering a nice amount of money , let me keep my creative control & let keep majority of my publishing rights. Pros: They can help my buzz grow faster , give me the right amount of funds to promote me successfully & give me better opportunities to get rich. Cons: They want too much control , They want too much of the artist hard earned money & alot of lables are snakes & want to get over.
Any last words?
Yeah I like to give a shout out to my whole team , my whole neighborhood 1Face Nation ent. & B.A also I like to shout out my city Syracuse NY, even though I wasn’t born here I was born & lived in Brooklyn NY, for a few years I still love my little city I grew up in Upstate.
