Below is a short interview with the upcoming underground artist J. B-MCKINNEY.

How did you decide to become an artist?

J. B-MCKINNEY: There wasn’t really a turning point in my life where i just woke up and decided i would be a musician, it’s something i’ve been doing since the age of four when i got a Lyle guitar as a gift for my birthday. It was a bit too advanced for me at that age, so i moved from strings to brass. Now i think it’s fair to say that that transition was the spark! My first introduction into MUSIC THEORY, was with the trombone. loved it, but ur in bass clef a lot which at the time i couldn’t see how important the bass was and had to go with something a bit more active. So i decided i would be a percussionist. I read anything percussion, from the snare to the piano thats where my heart was and still is. I eventually got around to playing the french horn, and took a shot at the bassoon. I got mad respect for those who prefer to play double reeds. See this music is something that has to be in you. This music is something that you have to nature, and constantly be on top of. A lot of people call themselves an artist, but only a select few know themselves as musicians.

The best advise given to me was, to always want criticism, wether its constructive or destructive. The feed back you get can tell you a lot about your work, and where you should be headed or need to direct your focus on.

What about concerts? Do you play live?

I am currently not doing any live gigs at the moment, but if the opportunity arises i for sure with that.

Best punchline you ever wrote?

In the rain, sleet, or snow!
- J. B-MCKINNEY

What are you currently working on? Did you release something in the past?

Right now I’m in the process of putting together original cover songs with a local songwriter. I have collaborated with artist in the past but as a producer nothing i can totally take all due credit for.

Last but not least: Would you sign a record contract with a major label?

I would love to sign a contract for all the right reasons. for example bills getting paid off, money constantly coming in, and making life easier for you and the people around you, thoes are the pros. Now some cons would be you swiping the pen and you become in debated for the rest of ur life, or spending money thats not yours.
