Artist and Audio Engineer, Jvan Speaks!

Featured artist: Jvan - Artist and Audio Engineer, Jvan Speaks!

Below is a short interview with the upcoming underground artist Jvan.

How did you decide to become an artist?

Jvan: Well, I have always loved music when I was six but began creating music when I was nine. I began loving Hip-Hop/Rap when my sister had shown me about the Hip-Hop Culture. I started to work on my craft when my sister told me to rap freestyle over the "a milli" instrumental for her. She told me that I had some skills. Therefore, I worked on freestyling until I was the age of eleven. Also, At the age of eleven, I worked on my writing skills. However, I didn't have recording equipment when I first started. Therefore, I used the recorder on my mp3 player to record my music. Although, it wasn't good, I believed in myself and kept putting in effort. So When I turned 13 or 14, I asked my mom for a USB microphone for my upcoming birthday. I then used a program called Audacity to record until I learned of better microphones and programs.

Best advice? Well, I remember one of my friends telling me to work on my craft and listen to your heart because that will help you figure what you want to do with music or as an artist.

What about concerts? Do you play live?

Yes, I have performed live.

Best punchline you ever wrote?

”A lot of rappers barkin’ like they’re tryna bite but don’t have teeth like Obie trice. They’re O U T in my sight.”
- Jvan

What are you currently working on? Did you release something in the past?

I am currently working on a new project right now titled ”Listen Up 2: Memento Mori.”

Last but not least: Would you sign a record contract with a major label?

That’s a hard question. I would say maybe depending on what they could offer me as an artist. I don’t want to join a label and they end up doing nothing for me. If I were to sign, it would have to be a label with good artists. The label has to provide me with a good team to help me and could benefit me as well as they do their veteran artists.

Any last words?

Shout out to every one in Cambridge, Ohio. They have helped me progress. I can’t thank them enough.
