Featured artist: Mac Flair - This is your Captain speaking…
Below is a short interview with the upcoming underground artist Mac Flair.
How did you decide to become an artist?
Mac Flair: I wrote songs in about 9th or 10th grade just for fun nothing too serious it was just the homies spitting for fun. Then came along the first group Beginning Your End(B.Y.E.)which consisted of myself and the homies King Moses and Toxic. That is when I first started actually recording music. It was raw no mixing none of that just us recording spitting bars. Then around freshman year of college I started getting more serious it was around the time my father passed and it was a way for me to channel all of those emotions and get them out. And that’s when Taking Flight started. It was a concept in my head to just have a team of the bros to spit. Yung Profit and I use to ride the bus and we always talked about rapping and how much we wanted to rap. Then came Nash, then T-Flow, then Big Al Sesh, then Walee, and then Black Magic.
Keep going. Simple as that
What about concerts? Do you play live?
Yes, I have received a couple opportunities to play live at small gigs and they were awesome. I believe live performances are epic because you literally feed off the energy from who is watching you.
Best punchline you ever wrote?
”I’m feeling myself like a chronic masturbater, words are power? Then I’m the master debater.”
What are you currently working on? Did you release something in the past?
I’m currently working on my 5th solo mixtape called” Just B’Cuz” dropping on datpiff on April 20th and I am also working on a Taking Flight compilation tape TBA. In the past some of the things I released: Sesh Decks and Tech Decks, Good Ole Fashion, Something In the Clouds, Star Wishing, Taking Flight, and We Enjoy Everything Delightfully.
Last but not least: Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
I’m kind of ify with signing a major deal I would only do it if it’s right for Taking Flight. Just seeing how Taylor Gang or Odd Future achieved a lot of their success by staying indie is awesome but then seeing the enormous success of Weezy which he has with YM is pretty awesome, so that’s why I’m ify it would have to be for the greater cause of the group. Some of the pros are obvious you can reach the masses and have a lot more opportunities and networking with the biggest names. Cons are you can’t really be yourself they are telling you what to say and you don’t have that much creative control.
Any last words?
I want to give a shout out to my mom, granny, and all of my family. I wanna give a shout out to all the Aces (TF artist). Shout out all the Pilots (fans) Shout out to anybody that gives my music a listen. Shout out the bros Tony T, X, MoMo, T Raw, J Lat, Troy, Scott and G. I’m not going to name a list of names but you know who yall are shouts out to yall. And shout out to you for this opportunity. I’m Yankee born and Southern raised in Fredericksburg, VA. Shout out to the 540.
