Below is a short interview with the upcoming underground artist Manuel Josias also known as Manuel J or Manny Jay.
How did you decide to become an artist?
Manuel Josias also known as Manuel J or Manny Jay: When I was a young little boy I use to love drawing in art lessons, however I wasn’t articulate in what I wanted to say, I was a bit quiet but always stood my ground when it was needed but I was determined to get my thoughts heard and I guess music was the way forward for me to project my Thinking, Let alone my feelings and opinions on different causes and issues. It all started from reading and writing poetry in school and taking it a step further by converting my poems into rhythmic formation.
As the years went by, I began to develop my own craft in singing my poetry which is Rap in the hip hop world. The first time I recorded my demo was in a professional studio at my uncles house in paris, I was 12 years old and I really loved and felt the way I was sounding on Tracks/Records and it made me feel like I can say and do anything I want. There are no rules to this Rap game so I guess its a free risk take when you’re doing your own thing and I guess I can say its a Powerful thing being an artist because you get to create your own world and as I always quote ”life imitates arts.”
To continue to do what I love doing the most which is Performing and Music and never to give up. My Performing arts tutors always told me never use the phrase ”I Can’t” otherwise I would have to do 20 Press Ups or more everytime I said it and that there was the best advice given and also one of the best experiences of my life.
What about concerts? Do you play live?
I perform at small venues when there is an opportunity. I would like to perform at bigger venues where I can reach a wide range of audiences and express my music in good spirit.
Best punchline you ever wrote?
”To those that strives are those that try and those that plan are those that are ahead of their time”
What are you currently working on? Did you release something in the past?
I’m constantly and currently working on new materials and videos hoping this whole music thing takes me somewhere a step further in the music industry. I haven’t yet released anything but I am due to releasing my First Mixtape ”Ready 2 Blow.”
Last but not least: Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
I hope I get the opportunity to sign to a major label and if I do I would sign a record contract with a major label to push my career forward to a better atmosphere. However, as I am unsigned I could pretty much do what I want, say what I want to say and be myself as I am Manuel Josias.
Any last words?
Shout to Yahweh (God), for always being there at all times through good times and struggles and the challenges I face. Many Love goes out to my family for supporting me all the way. My thanks to my college tutors for always giving me the greatest motivation and Last but no least many thanks to my fans who believe in me.
