Featured artist: Scott Pillgram - Emerging Indie Electronic Rapper Scott Pillgram of The Highscholars
Below is a short interview with the upcoming underground artist Scott Pillgram.
How did you decide to become an artist?
Scott Pillgram: I liked rhyming since the 3rd grade and I read a poetry book called ”A Light in The Attic” by Shel Silverstein I believe. Anyway I started to rhyme because something about it was so liberating and creative and the more I tried the better I became. I got influenced by 2pac who said he went from poetry to music for more recognition, so I wanted to do the same. Eminems rhymes astonished me and I wanted to be one of his favourite rappers one day. I have a long road and I’m new to the studio, but I’ve received plenty of support. I have chosen to keep my rap identity from my family and friends until I have to tell them, if that day ever comes.
When you’re in the studio you have to really deliver your lines as if you’re an actor trying to capture the moment
What about concerts? Do you play live?
Yes I play live as an electronic DJ and live rapper.
Best punchline you ever wrote?
”Let the haters hate, save it for a later day, you’re all pussies that I penetrate, push me till you need medic aid”
What are you currently working on? Did you release something in the past?
I recently entered Funk Volumes DFUOB6 contest and got enough votes to be a finalist. I am looking forward to recording more this summer.
Last but not least: Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Yes for the exposure, I want a bigger spread plain and simple. If that means money needs to be sacrificed, so be it until I have a solid and large dedicated fan base.
Any last words?
Toronto & Canadians all the way! I love my family and friends even though they don’t know about this (most of em).
Where can we contact you?
