Featured artist: Trewth - Detroit Dreamin
Below is a short interview with the upcoming underground artist Trewth.
How did you decide to become an artist?
Trewth: Growing up my parents listened to Country music and Rock/Metal, i met my older brother when i was 8 and he introduced me to hip-hop music, This was back in 96, I still remember the first rap song i heard, it was California Love by 2pac, i was hooked instantly. I found in rap music a way to escape and get away from what i was dealing with as a child from a broken home. The anger and pain just went away when my radio was on, i didn’t think about the fact that my father wasn’t around or what he did. I also didn’t pay much attention to my mother who had her own problems. As time went on i found a even greater release in writing my own lyrics, putting my story onto paper when i was 13. With the reaction i received from my peers i knew that my life had changed and music had been integrated into a career path as well as an escape.
The best advice i have been given is to not loose sight of yourself the game is evil, It will chew you up and spit you old gum.
What about concerts? Do you play live?
Yes i do perform live, and enjoy the feeling of being on stage.
Best punchline you ever wrote?
Steal the show like some damn bandits, n hold the world in my palms like im handstandin
What are you currently working on? Did you release something in the past?
I am currently working on my first solo EP, titled The Ep-idemik. Previous releases include, Add it up!! with fellow 223 Boyz artist Young Pronto in 2013, and Till death do us part…1 With a group called D.M.G in 2010. As well as various collaborations with other artists, both in Detroit and California.
Last but not least: Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Yes i would sign with a major label. The pros would include being able to expand my artist horizons, living the dream, and having to ability to work and learn from the greats in the industry.
Any last words?
Id like to shoutout Scarab Aka Lynxx (R.I.P), Young Pronto of course, Sqweez Cho, J. Wiley, Steve T and the rest of the Medikal Recordz fam, Proliphik and the D.M.G fam, P.
