Featured artist: K-Holla - The midnight toker of rap
As part of our ongoing "Rap's New Generation" series, today we sat down with the upcoming underground artist K-Holla from Eau Claire to talk about his recent music, his upcoming projects, his career advice and his overall experiences being in the music industry and he did not disappoint...
Thanks for taking the time to talk with us, K-Holla! Let's go back to the beginning of your career. How did you decide to become an artist?
K-Holla: I have music in my blood. My grandpa has a record room in his basement with over 15,000 albums and I had two uncles in rock bands in the 80s and my mom is a singer. I started writing at 15 because it was therapy. I began rapping at 18 and knew I born to do this. It's the only thing that feels natural and the higher I get the better I write. I'm like the Wiz Khalifa of Wisconsin. After being unsure about whether I want to deal with being famous for nine years I'm over the social anxiety. I went back to rebuild the foundation and started my label hyFen8ed Entertainment LLC. Now that I have a plan and I got Hollahotfire.com running it's only a matter of time and putting in the ground work touring to connect and build a true fanbase. Within three years Holla will be a name well known in the industry. Only one who can stop me is me and my persistence is legendary.
Don't try to be somebody you're not because the truest version of you will always shine the brightest.
What about concerts? Do you play live?
I have been performing around the midwest for about 9 years and have opened up for Alien Ant Farm, Bezz Believe, St. Paul Slim, Kottonmouth Kings and I'm opening up for Tom MacDonald and Nova Rockafeller on April 13th at The Plus in Eau Claire, WI.
Best punchline you ever wrote?
"I step to a hoe like do this blow / I don't wanna fuck I'm just gonna bruise your throat!"
"If you hate on shit that's fly go ahead and hate me then / my pen is so nice you would swear it was Canadian"
"I walk into the room they're like dude you stink / my bad can't help my shit is super dank"
What are you currently working on? Did you release something in the past?
I just released a fire remix of J. Cole's new single "Middle Child" and can be found at Soundcloud.com/Hollahotfire also on my YouTube channel https://youtu.be/uEQ0WXUu090
I am also releasing my new project "428" EP on 4/28/19! It's gong to have 4 tracks all produced by Yondo
You can pre-order the EP now at Hollahotfire.bandcamp.com
And you can pre-save it on Spotify at

Last but not least: Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
I would sign with Dreamville to get the opportunity to work with J. Cole but honestly I've come so far with hyFen8ed Entertainment I can't wait to see what I make out of it independently. I like knowing I have 100% control and I own my masters and publishing. Never say never if it's good business for both sides I'm willing to listen to all offers. I know my worth though and I'm not afraid to walk away from a deal if it's not exactly that.
Any last words?
I'd like to shoutout my hyFen8ed family Aztek, Lil' Swizzle, E-Dub, KaYnE and the other artists that I have collaborated with and the ones who have me opportunities to perform like Cudlino, Breakneck the Mage, Mistah and all of Big Business, Mr. Pizzy, Noah Estrada, Jake Lacoste, Skotty Benz, Catastrophy, Eaze Dolla, Teawhyb, Fathom, Myles Blvd. and I'm sure I'm forgetting done but no disrespect. They have all been working hard to make their dreams reality and made it fun to be apart of the Eau Claire scene.
