Featured artist: donfons - Newcomer 'donfons' has his sights set on freedom!
Below is a short interview with the upcoming underground artist donfons.
How did you decide to become an artist?
donfons: I decided to start rapping following long days and nights working in corporate america. I was alone in an area living the dream (as they would say) but I found myself wanting more. It led to me providing a form of therapy for myself in writing and music. This was almost 6 years ago. I started producing beats to accompany those rhymes after finding that nobody was crafting the sound that I could hear myself on.
No matter when, where, to a packed venue or in the elevator of an apt building, give each performance and interaction as though it will be your last.
What about concerts? Do you play live?
Yes I have performed in a number of local venues and Music festivals – including Beat-Shot Music Festival and The B.L.A.C.K Party.
Best punchline you ever wrote?
When they wanna nip your bud… what that say about you?… you'se a concrete rose that what that say about you!
What are you currently working on? Did you release something in the past?
I'm currently working on the B.L.A.C.K Fridays series of original song releases leading up into the release of my new EP. All updates on this can be tracked on my instagram account: @donfons.
I have released two projects in the past. One EP – Level Up and a mixtape – Showpiece.
Last but not least: Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
If the deal, vibe and the atmosphere was right, yes. The pros are having the backing of the machine that a major is. Distribution, artist dev. support, etc. The cons are what freedoms you have to give up in exchange for the pros. Not to mention revenue shares that may or may not fit what you feel you put into any given project or your career. It's a balance but would require the right touch in order to hold my interest.
Any last words?
One love to all my peoples in the Live One Eight of New York!
Troy, Albany, Schenectady and my originals from Brooklyn, NY to the world!
