Upcoming indepedent artist

Featured artist: Leekjaymusic - Upcoming indepedent artist

Below is a short interview with the upcoming underground artist Leekjaymusic.

How did you decide to become an artist?

Leekjaymusic: My father put me in it and had me around it since the day i can remember. At age of 10, i partook in my first ever live performance. The song i performed was original but it was written by my father and i performed with my neighbor at the time who was 5 years older than me. We performed, and won first place. So my desire to be an artist definitely starts there. Then i began to pursue basketball at a high level with aspirations of a nba player. Through that process, i still was musically involved as i would link with my friends and make music wit them and freestyle over beats. I swayed away from writing for a while, as i didnt take it as serious as i did when i was 10. But when i hit college, i began to write to beats again and freestyle as often as everyday and even dabbling around in the studio, Then around november of 2016, my debut mixtape "now they know" dropped.

Make music thats you and no one else. Speak the truth as there is many fake artists present in the business.

What about concerts? Do you play live?

I am constantly adding shows to perform at. Always looking to expand my brand and perform in front of live audiances. I have been performing live since i was 10 years old. I am now 20! However i wasnt consistently performing, this age is when i started. Sky is the limit when it comes to me and performing because its a part i love to do and i have dreams of hosting a nationwide tour. So im just excited to keep seeing my growth and improvement. I currently have two shows coming up for the summer and looking to add more.

Best punchline you ever wrote?

"I set the bar, u under mines. I be feeling like loose pennies and nickles way im under dimes"

What are you currently working on? Did you release something in the past?

I dropped my debut mixtape december 31st 2016. Last minute in the year. It was titled "Now they know" i chose this title simply because its my first project, and many people that knows me, some didnt know i had the gift to rap and make music. So after my tape comes out, they know i do music cuz i would have an entire mixtape out. The mixtape consists of 10 songs, no features, a couple samples, but the mixtape is all me. The reviews werent what i was looking for but people showed me alot of love for it. Some people had more personal connections to it than i thought people would. I aim to help listeners that are fans of my music and i try my best to compose music with a message. I am currently working on "now they know 2" that will be scheduled to release on july 15th. The significance of this release date is that july 15 is my fathers birthdate. For he is the one that has alot of responsibility for all my growth and success. While i compose my own music, my father is the one that started me off by writing me an entire song to perform in front of actual people when i was just 10 years old.

Last but not least: Would you sign a record contract with a major label?

Yes i would defintely sign a major label contract depending on the contract and benefits. Although i am an idependent artist, I am highly intrigued to sign if me and a lawyer looks over the contract, and everything is good.

Any last words?

I am currently working on forming a music group. Im not sure what im going to call it, im in no rush but i been thinking of big things. Anyway, i said that to say, i have an artist "Tay" who is scheduled to release his debut mixtape on july 4th of 2017. Shoutout to my family for their constant support and love they all i got when i got nothing so i love you guys.
