Featured artist: Donn Jonz - SC's own Donn Jonz
Below is a short interview with the upcoming underground artist Donn Jonz.
How did you decide to become an artist?
Donn Jonz: When I was younger seeing my older cousins an their friends putting together music an doing things with their group. I was automatically hooked.
You got to have something that separates you from everyone else. You can't say it's your music bc anyone can say that. It has to be something that attracts the people to YOU automatically without hearing one piece of your creation
What about concerts? Do you play live?
Yes, I do. I'm cautious about shows simply bc the indie / unsigned scene flooded so a show could be 30 rappers and me that 1 artist..
Best punchline you ever wrote?
"Take 7 rap niggas put em all in a line. An take 7 trap niggas who think they can rhyme and it'll take 7 more before I go for mine. I caught 21 all at the sametime"
What are you currently working on? Did you release something in the past?
Love Jones Vol.3 was my most recent full body of work release. My latest single was released July 7th which happen to be the first single for my up and coming mixtape "Babylon" (Blue Light District Vol.2)
Last but not least: Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Yes depending on the paperwork an the actual situation. Pros are the major push what they call the MACHINE. The label backing speaks volumes in the right scenario. Great A&Rs who know talent and how to pick great material. A team to help with all your needs. Cons are the shitty deals, the fact you might not own your publishing. The major labels have hella artist you might become just another number. If you don't sale they might shelf you because they feel like your cold. Many cons but those are the main things.
Any last words?
