Cape Town Hip Hop's Sleeping Giant

Featured artist: J-Dubz CPT - Cape Town Hip Hop's Sleeping Giant

Below is a short interview with the upcoming underground artist J-Dubz CPT.

How did you decide to become an artist?

J-Dubz CPT: I became an artist because of my parents. Growing up they exposed me to all kinds of music from all genres.

Since the age of 12 I started acting in school plays and singing in competitions. At age 14 i started writing my own songs and recording music.

In high school i found a love for hip hop music and started to work on both crafts simultaneously.

The best advice i ever got as an artist was to believe in your ability, stay consistent, work hard and remain true to your art form even when no one is listening, eventually they will.

What about concerts? Do you play live?

I play live shows all the time and every performance gets better. So far i have performed at events like "Sizzled Block Party", "Smoken Word" and opened for Bow Wow a few years back on his visit to South Africa.

Best punchline you ever wrote?

I got all the angles like a protractar, so how could i not become a rap star?

What are you currently working on? Did you release something in the past?

I am currently working on my first EP which is due for release next year.

I recently released a single called "Aweh" which is a common slang term used in Cape Town to either confirm, agree or greet.

The music video can be found on Youtube by searching "J-Dubz – Aweh"

Last but not least: Would you sign a record contract with a major label?

Yes i would sign a record deal, however i would not like my deal to be a dictatorship.

I'd like my own creative freedom in other words and sometimes labels want you to talk about certain topics.

Any last words?
