Featured artist: Young Flame - Enter The Furnace
Below is a short interview with the upcoming underground artist Young Flame.
How did you decide to become an artist?
Young Flame: As a young adolescent, I grew attached to the sub-culture of hip hop because of what it ultimately represented; and in the mid to late 90’s, hip hop was very different because the artist actually had a significant message to deliver. Music was a form of expression in which an artist would reflect the reality of the daily struggles that we endured inside of our impoverished and crime ridden communities; and this was indeed something that I could relate to. In fact, my all-time favorite artist was Tupac Shakur (Rest In Peace) because of the inspiration and hope that he gave to me and several others when we felt as though the entire world was on our shoulders; and to be honest, I love to do the same thing, which is deliver a message that people can relate to and learn from as well. That’s how I decided to become an artist.
The best advice that given to me as an artist was to always reflect the reality of the streets.
What about concerts? Do you play live?
I am always willing to do a live performance or a concert.
Best punchline you ever wrote?
I’ll cross a busta like longitude, latitude, got an attitude/ flex up or try to make a move, 2 hours later, you’ll make the news
What are you currently working on? Did you release something in the past?
I am currently working on a new mixtape series, which I will call ”The Furnace.” I have also released a mixtape and a few other tracks with my two brothers. Our group is called ”The Hit ’Em Off Camp.”
Last but not least: Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Of course, I would sign a record contract with a major label; and as far as I’m concerned, the only con to signing a contract with a major label is that you’ll lose some of freedom as an artist because you’ll then be obligated to satisfy the requirements of that particular contract. However, that’s business.
Any last words?
Of course. I would like to give a shoutout to all of my family and friends, and every single individual who has supported me in Eastover and Columbia, South Carolina. I would also like to give a shoutout to eveyone across the nation who has shown me some love and support. This includes my people overseas as well. That love and support is highly appreciated.
