Below is a short interview with the upcoming underground artist spazzmodius.

How did you decide to become an artist?

spazzmodius: i’ve always loved hip hop, i actually started singing first, i used to write poetry and write songs and i attended a music high school to hone my music talent and that’s where i met Justin Rivera, who ended up becoming a lifelong friend and frequent music collaborator. Justin was also a singer, and one day he came across a hip hop competition hosted by well known producer jahlil beats, so he suggested we enter it. at first i was adamant being that neither of us had ever rapped but i gave it a shot. we both wrote raps to a beat produced by jahlil and they came out pretty good for our first time, it was a fun experience although we didn’t win the competition. after that i fell in love with the craft and spent the next few years experimenting with and perfecting my skills.

best piece of advice i recieved was to never let a letdown knock your head out the game, shit wont always go your way right away, but if you give up you’ll never get anywhere. if you don’t win that rap competition or you don’t make it to that showcase where the sony representative was, don’t let it discourage you, use that shit to fuel the fire.

What about concerts? Do you play live?

i’ve done a number or open mics, competitions and local music showcases throughout new york, im currently looking into getting booked for larger showcases as well as opening for known artists

Best punchline you ever wrote?

by far the greatest go tell ya mom nigga/you’ll surpass us when goku finish chargin his spirit bomb nigga

What are you currently working on? Did you release something in the past?

i’ve worked on a number of solo songs and i am also the frontman of a diverse music group consisting of four members called ”ruckus bunch” we have released one 10 track lp on datpiff and are currently working on our debut mixtape, and im also in the process of making my debut solo mixtape, neither of which have a release date as of yet

Last but not least: Would you sign a record contract with a major label?

it would depend on alot of factors. i believe the pros are you will have a large platform to work with and a strong team backing you to really get your name out there, cons would be the possibility of having your image controlled, being legally binded to dress, rap, act, and talk how the label wants you to, not having creative control over the content or release of your music

Any last words?
