Below is a short interview with the upcoming underground artist Dar-1.

How did you decide to become an artist?

Dar-1: I really got into rap in 95’ with 2pac’s Me Against the World album and Bone Thugs E.1999 Eternal. In middle school I started making my own songs and performing in talent shows. In college I did spoken word poetry as well but eventually got back to my first passion and decided to start really recording and releasing my own music. It’s something I always wanted to do and planned to do since I first started but just got distracted with sports, school, and other hobbies.

You can’t please everybody.

What about concerts? Do you play live?

Yes I perform live and have done plenty of open mics and talent shows but haven’t landed a gig for a concert yet.

Best punchline you ever wrote?

Truly believe sky’s the limit if my own heart’s straight; left Texas but remained in a lone star state

What are you currently working on? Did you release something in the past?

Currently I’m working on two projects. The Nightwing Mixtape and my first true album Dar1 Theory. I have released a mixtape called Skool Daze on datpiff.

Last but not least: Would you sign a record contract with a major label?

If the situation was right I would sign to a major label. The con is that you can get shelved or be forced to change your music. The obvious pro is that having a big team behind you, your exposure can go through the roof. I’m skeptical about it but if I was offered a good contract and could maintain a lot of creative control, I would do it.

Any last words?

Sure. Shoutout to my street team, my Huntington WV fam, Dayton OH fam, and my current city Charlotte fam. I’ve spent a good amount of time in each so I’ll rep all three.

Where can we contact you?

Thank you for your time. We wish you and your career the success it deserves.
