Thoughts in Bars, To You With Love

Featured artist: TripleR - Thoughts in Bars, To You With Love

Below is a short interview with the upcoming underground artist TripleR.

How did you decide to become an artist?

TripleR: I used to be really into writing poetry. I would always be writing something during study hall when I was in school. A friend jokingly dared me once to write a rap. I don’t take dares lightly, so I wrote the rap and performed it for my schools talent show. After that first performance, I was hooked. I knew I wanted to do this forever from that moment on the stage.

My desires have changed though. The music used to be the way to success and value for me. Now, I just want to do it to share my thoughts with people. I want to write songs that show people how cared for they are, by me and ultimately by God. I want very much to leave a legacy of reliability and emotional vulnerability. I hope to impact people, and ultimately to show people that there is a God and he loves them. More than that, if he can save me, he can save anyone, and wants to. Check out Romans 10:9-10

Don’t try to be what you think they want to hear. Be who you are and let whoever wants to hear it have the privilege.

What about concerts? Do you play live?

I haven’t in a few years, but yes.

Best punchline you ever wrote?

Go ahead and give me your two cents, so I can flip it and stack it so it can finally make sense(cents). I’ll grab my lenses off the shelf, so you can see how it ends, but guarantee you won’t have the time to tell your friends.

What are you currently working on? Did you release something in the past?

After my EP that came out last spring, I took a short break. I’m currently working on my new mixtape entitled Manual Focus. I currently have the singles ”Manual Focus” and ”Let Me Know” released for that project.

Last but not least: Would you sign a record contract with a major label?

I would consider it, but it would have to be seriously weighed out. The pros are huge, including budget and power and influence. But the cons are just so egregious. You often lose your rights and publishing, percentages go down drastically. Not to mention the loss of creative license. I hate the idea of being on a schedule and being in the hands of someone who may or may not believe in what I want to do. I hate the idea of getting signed then fading into the nothingness that seems to be some of these labels. I would consider it, but would much other do it on my own or possibly with an indie label.

Any last words?

I could shout out so many names here. But a lot of love goes out to VTZ. He taught me everything I know about making beats and a lot about writing structures, how to write a bar and all of that. Also Halfbreed, he’s been with me since day one and always supported me. As well as every underground artist who inspires me and has shown love including Cryptic Wisdom, The Jokerr, Cardiac, Kashar, Champ, Faet… and a whole lot more.
