Featured artist: J Asheley - My Testimony
Below is a short interview with the upcoming underground artist J Asheley.
How did you decide to become an artist?
J Asheley: Heaven decided to create me as an artist. I chose to accept the assignment. There is no greater joy to me than creating music.
The best advice given to me as an artist was this statement: Be true to your gift and work it every day and it will never fail you.
What about concerts? Do you play live?
Yes, I play live in church services because that is my genre of music – gospel. I don’t give concerts, yet.
Best punchline you ever wrote?
If you write, they will hear it!
What are you currently working on? Did you release something in the past?
I am currently working on my first Spoken Word CD because I will always be first and foremost a poet. The last time I released a song was about 4 months ago.
Last but not least: Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Yes, I would sign a contract with a major label only if I am allowed to write my own songs. I want to have creative control of my song material. That’s your pro and your con in one sentence.
Any last words?
I hail from Monroe, Louisiana but I give a lyrical shout out to all my poetic sisters and brothers from my Facebook group, Poet Speak, and all my poetic colleagues from around the world who are working hard to advance the movement of poetry.
