Below is a short interview with the upcoming underground artist King Carter.
How did you decide to become an artist?
King Carter: I had a rough childhood and it caused a lot of problems growing up. I had problems coping with the things i dealt with and it seemed there was no way to release the demons that were growing inside of me. It was hard to talk to people one on one and vent because the world can be so judgmental. So i realized that me speaking to a microphone was much easier. It didn’t judge me it didn’t rebuttal on the things i had to say. It just listened and let me speak my mind. I felt relieved and got spiritually high off of the experience. I was hooked from day one and it became my passion. I realized i could help alot of people relate to me and maybe help them cope with things they may be going through. Music became my passion, my dream, and my escape from reality, my coping mechanism.
Not everybody in the world is gonna like what you say however, there will be people that feel what you say as long as you feel your own work. And as long as they feel you they will follow you to kingdom come.
What about concerts? Do you play live?
Yes i have performed live. Im currently in Afghanistan and i recently did a show here on base. I will continue to do shows when i return home i plan on starting a tour.
Best punchline you ever wrote?
Take em to the roots my flow’s like a tree. Cause its Sycamore than a stick em wh**e with good p***y diagnosed with AIDS.
What are you currently working on? Did you release something in the past?
I’m currently writing songs to put together an album and also working on a soundtrack for a broadway play hosted by Crown Productions. I released a mixtape This Is Me before i left for deployment. it was recently awarded Best Album for the Akademia Music Awards. http://www.theakademia.com/bestalbum_raphiphop_october_2014.html
Last but not least: Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
It could be discussed not saying yes or no. Pros its a record label its cool to be a part of something big a team. Cons it makes it a job and once you turn your hobby into a job it aint fun anymore.
