Featured artist: TonyRome - The Southwest Philly King is back with a vengeance
Below is a short interview with the upcoming underground artist TonyRome.
How did you decide to become an artist?
TonyRome: When I was young, my parents was heavily into music. My brother was too. Being around music and the emergence of Hip Hop, pretty much did it for me. We talking since the mid 80s I’ve been doing this. Started this when I was 13 living in Southwest Philly and still going strong nearly 30 years later. I love doing it.
Believe in yourself and your music. If you don’t believe in it, who will?
What about concerts? Do you play live?
Yes. Anytime, any place, any venue. Expect to see a lot of me this summer in a city near you.
Best punchline you ever wrote?
I go in the booth and murder any TRACK I’M ON/ pop bottles til the YAC IS GONE/ It got me ramming like a CAPRICORN/ and you the one I’m SNAPPING ON/ I lay you out flat on that block that you TRAPPING ON/ We can do it with our hands/ or get our CLAPPING ON/ But you b**** you prolly let ya b**** STRAP IT ON….#bars
What are you currently working on? Did you release something in the past?
I’m finishing my album ’THROUGH MY EYES’. It will tell how I see life through my eyes growing up in Southwest Philly and also how I view the world. I released a few joints in the past, including a mixtape, but nothing as monumental as this album..
Last but not least: Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Yes. The pros is getting to do what you love and reaping the benefits. The cons is this is a SHADY business. Proceed with caution.
