Featured artist: Slim GoHamm - Let Me Shine
Below is a short interview with the upcoming underground artist Slim GoHamm.
How did you decide to become an artist?
Slim GoHamm: I really never decided to become an artist, it kinda chose me. I was always the quiet type as young boy, and coming up i saw and heard the direction hiphop was headed. I started out writing poems for my moms after she died in 2005. I would sit up late night and listen to the radio and write to the songs on the radio. I remember the first track i wrote to was to Gucci Manes 3rd Quarter Freestyle. Soon after i recorded my first track called, ”My Bitch”, with a couple guys from Henderson, NC. Soon after i moved to Sanford, NC, and i been doing music every since. i really got a thing for just writing the music, im not the type to be in the spotlight as an artist..lol
The best advice given to me as an artist was from a guy me and partner Tre Hitz ran into in Atlanta, Ga., when we were doing shows at the ATL Music Room. I was told to always write what i feel is needed on a beat, and stay independent if I can.
What about concerts? Do you play live?
I do live performances, havent had that big break for a concert yet but its coming.
Best punchline you ever wrote?
I got hundreds on the floor…check my cash flow….I really hate a punchlin#OffTheTippie
What are you currently working on? Did you release something in the past?
Im currently owrkingon my debut mixtape titled ”Let Me Shine”. In the past i just released a host of tracks to the public online. But we ainming for I tunes and all so yall be on the look out for O.T.G.M.G..(One Team Gang Music Group)
Last but not least: Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
I wouldn’t sign a major contract unless Im able to retain rights to everything i write and produce. The only bad part about signing a deal is you actually being fronted all this money, and if you never had that much money before you gone blow it like Chief Keef or other artist who had millions and now just faded to black. The only good part i feel that comes from signing with a major label is the publicity, and advertising you receive. Along with doing tours because thats where the real money is, doing tours, and merchandising your brand.
Any last words?
First i wanna shoutoutt God almighty for allowing all of this. I wanna shoutout my moms who raised me and pushed me to be the man i am today,Shoutout my Squad O.T.G.M.G, My people back in Henroc and Ol Ox…lol..My partners uo north reppin DC/Maryland/Va.. And a special shoutout to my kids who give me that drive, and to my homies in the Santrap…Tre Hitz, East Fly, West side, East side, GG, E4 and E40 Clique back in Henroc, all my Bullcity folk, all my Raleigh, Gboro, and Charlotte folk. Shoutout to anybody who making that paper and on they grind by any means. #GoHamm
