Featured artist: Stone Cruz - WHO IS STONE CRUZ?
Below is a short interview with the upcoming underground artist Stone Cruz.
How did you decide to become an artist?
Stone Cruz: 10 years ago I watched Jay-Z’s ”Fade to Black” documentary, and I remember growing up saying that I will sell out the Garden like Jay-Z. That film is what really inspired me to tell my story and not be afraid to just be me, but what solidified it as my career was when I got to college and my teacher Toki Wright played the mentor role and showed me that I had a true talent that needed to be heard.
When you look inside yourself and see the pain, use it to inspire a generation.
What about concerts? Do you play live?
I do perform live, and I’m currently working on setting up my first tour.
Best punchline you ever wrote?
Jay in 9-6 im building an empire lets roc, without a reasonable doubt, a nigga comin of age, stackin these dead presidents, no regrets on the stage.
What are you currently working on? Did you release something in the past?
I’ve released 2 EP’s (Ambitious Intro & 24 Hours) which were both projects where I was finding myself musically which my newest project executes. I’m currently finishing up my debut LP ”Voices” scheduled for release on the first day of the summer (June 21st).
Last but not least: Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
I would sign with a major label if the situation was right, and I believed in the company & vice versa. The pro’s are really the money, connection, and size of your carrer and fan base growth, but the cons like lack of attention, the continuity, and the unfair deals that get handed out.
Any last words?
Obviously I have to give a HUGE shoutout to my music family Dope Music Council, and my actual family The Hunters. Much love to Toki Wright, Monty Cold, Dom Milli, Ian Everson, CJ Pitts, Markus Blex, and all my Minnesota family, and most importantly shoutout to the hood that made me HARLEM!
