Featured artist: King Jul - King Jul & Time Bomb Inc: The Future of Hip Hop
Below is a short interview with the upcoming underground artist King Jul.
How did you decide to become an artist?
King Jul: I grew up being the youngest out of 4 siblings in my household, so it was innevitable for me to be influenced by whatever style &/or music my siblings were listening to at the time which so happened to be late 80's & early 90's Hip Hop. As I grew older I began to be molded by rapper's such as Tupac Shakur, Notorious B.I.G., Big Pun, Big L, Nas, Jay-Z, Big Daddy Kane, Rakim, Kool G Rap, Twista, Heavy D & MANY others that contributed to what most would consider my "wild style". Once I reached the age of 14 I began to take on a rapper's identity giving myself the Alias King Juliani later shortening it to King Jul & sort of just took it from there.
I really hope this doesn't sound like the generic "rapper answer" but the honest & realest truth is to just simply NEVER give up I matter because of what or who.. Only YOU influence YOUR decisions in this game of life!
What about concerts? Do you play live?
Yes, you can catch me twice a month (the 15th & the 30th) at an even called Magnet Unplugged located in Queens, NY.
Best punchline you ever wrote?
"There ain't no stoppin' me- Coppin' mo' cribs than Monopoly- No step-father but got O.G.'s that'll POP for me-"
What are you currently working on? Did you release something in the past?
The summer of 2015 I released my debut digital album "Money Clip" which to me is my most important masterpiece. The reason this project means so much is because I recorded, engineered & mixed down the entire project myself in my Brooklyn apartment with almost absolutely no real "industry professional" tools at my disposal.. I'm living proof that no matter your circumstance you can definitely turn nothing into a whole lot of something!
Last but not least: Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Most definitely as long as I'm respected for what I bring to table & my paperwork reflects my future contributions to the world of music we know it.
Any last words?
Most definitely! I wanna give a shoutout to my whole Time Bomb Inc team & all of the artists/family on our roster such as Junez, A.B., Raging Bangz, Desmond Brown of LIT Films/Productions, Alex Arabov of Diamond Snake Inc, Jose Vasquez of City Official Productions, our Time Bomb Inc A&R's Ellis "El Neenyo" Rouse & Michael Myrthil, Khania Curtis who is our head of graphic/web design & also CEO of the famed company Hotwrks.com which is home to many elite clients, my beautiful mother Dr. Beverly Nelson-Curtis & my gorgeous grandmother Brinella Manhertz-Japp Greenley, my god-mother Millicent Bernard, my lil' Cousins especially my Cuzzo Eddison "Glo Boy" Pratts for believing in me & looking up to me as a role model figure even when I felt like I wasn't worth being glorified.. I wanna thank the Hip Hop heavy weights in the rap game that have had my back thoughout this journey on the road to fame as well. Massive shoutout to my mentor & big brother Spliff Star CEO of Paper Rock Records & Co-CEO of Flip Mode Squad/Conglomerate Records for always being in my corner even at times I thought he wasn't. Shoutout to everyone who wakes up everyday motivated, not scared to hold their tongue for the sake of "political correctness" & express themselves freely. This is what truly separates the children apart from the adults.. & last but far from least, I must give all of my appreciation to the upmost high creator G*d himself, without you nothing is possible but with you all things are but a minor task in your grand scheme..
