Texas Artist On The Rise

Featured artist: Tashyne - Texas Artist On The Rise

Below is a short interview with the upcoming underground artist Tashyne.

How did you decide to become an artist?

Tashyne: When I was younger all I listened to was hiphop/r&b, I use to sing in choir at church as a kid. As I got older I had leaned more into hiphop and really took it in. By the age of 15 I started to actually pick up a microphone and record a couple of tracks, even though I wasn't that great at it at the time, but I knew I could get better. By the time I turned 16 I dropped my first mixtape under my first moniker "Playboy", entitled "The freestyle Prince". I didn't just name it that because I wanted to, I was in alot of rap battles during highschool and I would always lose lol. But not to everyone just this one guy, until one day at lunch we had a really heated rap battle and I actually won, he had no words left to say after I had went, and he just grabbed my arm and raised it up high and just shouted "He got me y'all! I ain't got nothing to say", to the whole school yard. I was shocked because he had been known at the school as the best freestyle artist. I went to school the next day and he called me the Freestyle Prince, everyone was calling me that, so I took it and ran with it. I had to earn that, nothing was given to me. So after a name change, and couple more recordings and the demand for a CD from got high enough, I decided to do this for real. And thus began my journey into becoming the artist everyone knows today.

"Don't give up and always keep pushing yourself,…no matter what. Because people want you to fail…don't give them a reason, and continue to strive for greatness."-Petey Pablo

That was the best advice I was told backstage after opening up for him and Pitbull.

What about concerts? Do you play live?

Yes, I do perform live, and have been for a while now. The stage is like a seoncd home to me. Getting up in front of hundreds to thousands of fans is crazy but the experience is even better. Especially when you set the venues off getting everybody amped. I love it.

Best punchline you ever wrote?

Hard head, soft ass, in the middle is where the bullets pass.

What are you currently working on? Did you release something in the past?

Right now I am currently working on my mixtape "Inertia Rising", two EPs and an album which are untitled at the moment. But other than that I am definitely recording like crazy. I just dropped my new single featuring Oso Tha Craziest called "Make'Em UnaStan". The record is dope, very energetic, a pure banger for the clubs. It's available right now on iTunes, Amazon, Google Play and Spotify. I also just dropped "Pablo Picasso" (produced by Alvin Drumz), "Turn Up 2 Get It" (produced by Nick Luscombe) and "Body Talk" (produced by Team Green).

Last but not least: Would you sign a record contract with a major label?

That is very good question. I all honesty I would sign to increase my exposure and widen and broaden my opportunities as an artist. I think it could be a good thing for your career because you can definitely learn alot from others who have been doing it longer than you. The pros, that I see, are gaining more experience in the field of music and how it all works from a bigger perspective, widening and broadening your audience, networking and building great relationships with producers and other artist in general, plus it could establish you a little deeper as an artist as well.
The cons, alot of sleepless nights, it is a business so you will have to put in the work, day in and day out. Not being home often enough, but to be a star you have to work like one. And lastly, the possibility of being shelved, no artist wants to be signed just to have their music sit there and not given the chance to show what they can do globally. But if you get that chance, take it and run 100 mph with it.

Any last words?

I want to give a big shout out to my hometown San Angelo, TX! A shout out to my family over at Bad Biznezz Music Group, shout out to my boys Toonz and Jaymacc, and a very big shout out to my growing little son Mezzrion, daddy got you man, always!
