Below is a short interview with the upcoming underground artist Mr. Smith aka The Fire Chief.

How did you decide to become an artist?

Mr. Smith aka The Fire Chief: Back when I 26, because music was everything. It was a big part of my life. The freestyle’n, making beats, doing shows. It made people happy, it made people motivate themselves, it gave hope I always wondered why my pops had instruments around the house when I was young. The guitars, keyboards. Because there isn’t much hope for a Native American. Especially the reservation life. He passed on in 2008. But I get what he was trying to do and that’s pretty much the reason why I did it.

Independent is the best form of exercise in this business.

What about concerts? Do you play live?

I play live whenever we are booked, I am planning a mixtape venue in August 2014. First show I am running.

Best punchline you ever wrote?

I see you hate’n, that’s why I’m smiling/ eyes up on me like a white cop racial profiling.

What are you currently working on? Did you release something in the past?

I am currently working on a mixtape. The theme is 49er music vol.1. it features Lil & Absent from Clover G Records, also Shun Ward from Gruvsoul Ent. My goal for this is to get numerous artists on this project, show off the Native American talent. I want to bring hope for these native artist. Im doing this for them, because no one else is on this level.

Last but not least: Would you sign a record contract with a major label?

Thats a tough one, pimp or be pimped? I like running things, i dont like to be owned. But it the deal was right, I guess I would.

Any last words?

I would like to give a big shout first to my people up in Red Lake,MN. My Brother who just fought death and survived, Jeff Smith. All my family, my SKE affiliates, and Absent & LiL Flip for getting involved on this project, and to Shun Ward from Gruvsoul Ent. Chief-N-Music Group.
