Mind of the Genius

Featured artist: Genius - Mind of the Genius

Below is a short interview with the upcoming underground artist Genius.

How did you decide to become an artist?

Genius: I’ve always had a passion for music. I would spend the majority of my time in school writing rhymes and most of my time at home spitting lyrics to myself. I always looked up to artists like Andre3000, Tupac, Nas, Eminem and a lot more. I never really let many people hear me back then. I didn’t want the lime light. One day a good friend of mine(APlus) was performing and asked me to just be on stage with hime. I saw how the crowd reacted to him and instantly I wanted that for myself. I started recording and going anywhere I could get a mic in my hand. I just want to make music that will inspire other people like the artists I mentioned inspired myself. I feel like I really have something to offer the game, more than just a hit single, and I ain’t stopping till they recognize me.

Just be you. The people want YOU, not what you think they want.

What about concerts? Do you play live?

I’ll get on any stage at any venue that will have me. I do it for the audience.

Best punchline you ever wrote?

”i’m a silverback and i hang with orangutans and a gang of apes” That would have to be my favorite.

What are you currently working on? Did you release something in the past?

I’ve released multiple mixtapes with some fellow artists, but currently I’m working on an EP titled ”The Foundation”

Last but not least: Would you sign a record contract with a major label?

I’d sign with a major label, but only if the paper and conditions were right. There have been some great artists that got signed but got put on the back burner. You get help with distribution and you get a check, but only when they think it’s time for you to be on. If you got a hustler mentality and are willing to put in that work you can get that check on your own. Two Chainz was under DTP and most folks never heard of him until he got out of that and got into the right deal. Whereas Tech Nine been doing his thing independent and been getting bread. Everything that glitter ain’t gold.

Any last words?

I’d like to give a shoutout to my whole team at Thumbprint Ent.: Conzbruck, APlus, PeeWii, and TreyBoi Juice.
Warner Robins GA stand up!!! I put on for the 478 baby!!!
