Who is young Rico

Featured artist: Young Rico - Who is young Rico

Below is a short interview with the upcoming underground artist Young Rico.

How did you decide to become an artist?

Young Rico: I've always liked to write raps here and there. So I use to have things written but never did anything with them. I went to a friends house and he was recording his verse for pound cake and I was like, I wrote a verse for this. Nobody knew that I was writing raps so as a joke everyone told me to go spit the verse, thinking it was going to be trash. After they heard me spit for the first time a lot of my friends and some people I don't know started telling me you should do music. I never thought I was good enough but I always loved music. So that gave me the confidence to become an artist

Never let anyone, whether it be a manager or a friend or someone who's "been doing music for a long time", stop your creative process. You can take advice but if you hear something or you want something to sound a certain way because that's how you want to express your creativity then do it. Don't let anyone stop you

What about concerts? Do you play live?

Yes. I actually have a band. So we convert everything that I record to live arrangements with the band to perform. Actually have a show coming up next week in a local spot in miami

Best punchline you ever wrote?

man they don't wanna see me spaz, feeling like smokey on Friday finally whoopin they ass.

What are you currently working on? Did you release something in the past?

I'm working on a mixtape and an EP right now. the mixtape "Hope you listening" should be out in a few weeks. The EP should be out by October. This mixtape will be my first full project. But I have two verse on my homies mixtape "Grizzly Season 2"

Last but not least: Would you sign a record contract with a major label?

I'm not looking to sign a major deal but I also would never pass up a blessing if it was presented to me. Has to be the right situation. Signing a major deal is always dope, I feel like that would give you a chance to use avenues that wouldn't be readily available to you without the deal. Cons would be false sense of security depending on the mind set of the artist. Major deal doesn't mean peace of mind or that your set.

Any last words?

Shouts out to Miami definitely. But also shouts out to the movement that's about to happen. People don't associate rappers from Miami as real rappers but that's about to change. With me Mike Price, Sicksdot and Full Klip things are about to change. So shouts out to all of them
