Featured artist: Ant Tha Giant (ATG) - Step Into the Mind of Ant Tha Giant
Below is a short interview with the upcoming underground artist Ant Tha Giant (ATG).
How did you decide to become an artist?
Ant Tha Giant (ATG): I developed my artist entity of Ant Tha Giant 3 years ago. I'm a Hip-Hop artist and song writer. It all started when I started hanging out with a few musically inclined friends of mine whom I met through my church 3 years ago upon moving home from college. They're also artists as well, so we would normally write jingles and songs together. At the time I would just normally make a quick hook (singing) as I can sing too, but I had never really written music before at that point, so that gave me my first taste of writing. At the time too, I had never rapped before, except for going over one of my favorite artist's lyrics, and funny enough I never had a thought in my mind that I would ever be rapping, but one day I wrote down my very first rap verse. I instantly fell in love with it, became addicted to it, created my rap name of Ant Tha Giant a few months after, and then the rest is history. I'm now on my journey to reach the top of the rap game!
I'd have to split this in between "You need to do your homework on the business side of the music industry so you know what you're getting yourself into, as it's 80% business and 20% artistry" and "Always have confidence in yourself as an artist and believe in yourself and in your abilities that you will always reach your goals". I stick by this.
What about concerts? Do you play live?
Yes I do play live and I love it! It gives me life!
Best punchline you ever wrote?
I just kill the competition then I get away like I was OJ, but my book gon be called "Yeah I Did That Shit, This Nigga Don't Play"
What are you currently working on? Did you release something in the past?
I'm currently working on my first official mixtape project titled "Welcome to Ant'z World" slated for a late Summer 2016 release.
I also recently dropped two singles off the project "Sallie Mae" and "Unconditional Love". Be sure to go check those out on Youtube and Sound Cloud (Ant Tha Giant) https://soundcloud.com/atgmuzik.
Last but not least: Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
As of right now, no I would not sign with a major label, but we'll see what the future holds. I would rather do it independently. I want to have full creative control of my music and be able to reap the majority of what I sow, something I feel I will not fully be able to do on a major label. Plus I don't mind going for the independent ride that will create longevity for myself even if takes a bit longer than it would if I were to sign with a major label. I feel that most of what is pushed through major labels today is trash to be honest who hit a burst of stardom and the disappear without a trace, with the exception of your Kendricks and J. Coles. I want to build a legacy and I feel it would be more fulfilling doing it on my own.
Any last words?
I definitely have to give a shout out to my loving Mother and little sister Marie who have always held me down since Day 1 and through everything. I also want to give a shout out to the rest of my family and my friends who are always rocking out with me on this journey. I definitely give my respect and love to my city, the Boogie Down Bronx!
