Featured artist: CoCo757 - My Career
Below is a short interview with the upcoming underground artist CoCo757.
How did you decide to become an artist?
CoCo757: Me and some friends started rap battling in the Cafeteria during lunch. I won most of the battles and people said I should become a rapper. I didn’t start immediately, because I didn’t feel ready for it. I waited until this year, when I turned 15, and my ultimate deciding factor to become a rapper, was because of Dizzy Wright, because I saw that people who are like me who have a good message in their music can be successful artists.
My cousin said to never stop and be careful with my money, because I could end up broke like other aspiring rappers have.
What about concerts? Do you play live?
As soon as I can get sponcers I will performe live, or as soon as I make enough money to start one on my own if I dont get any sponcers.
Best punchline you ever wrote?
When Im on the mic,rhymes be poppin just like, the engine of a harley motor bike.
What are you currently working on? Did you release something in the past?
I have released three albums, 11 songs total, and am working on a new one currently.
Last but not least: Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
I’d concider it. If I were signed to a major label, Id try to make as much money as I can, then try to branch off on my own. The pro would be that youre on the major circuit where you are seen all the time, and get alot of attention. The con for me would be that getting all that attention could be bad, because I might not be able to cope well with people in my personal life. But, I definitley would work on it.
Any last words?
I’d like to give a huge shoutout to Hampton Roads, because the area made me who I am now. I also would like to give a shoutout to my teacher in 6th grade who taught me the rules I live by today which were” No matter how angry or worked up you get about something, remember the 3C’s: Calm, Cool, and Collective. The final shoutout will be to my grandfather who showed me how to give love to people, and was one of the people who made me want to be an artist.
