Featured artist: Blake Wilson - Blake Wilson Unmasked
Below is a short interview with the upcoming underground artist Blake Wilson.
How did you decide to become an artist?
Blake Wilson: When I was real young i would actually rap along with the radio but just in my head, I was always on point and thinking i can do this! So i asked my grandma if she thought id ever be on the radio, Of course she said good dream to have. I knew i was going to write music anyway, Even when i read i read it in bars like music ya know? I had to be like 7 at that time i realized im a artist, Always in the back of my head i knew i had to do it right i cant just put bad quality music out, So i saved up money and i just wrote music on my spare time untill i could get to a studio i knew was going to be nice.
My best advice came from my good friend Scott Shippy he told me to keep practicing, Because i would always go to Paw PAw records and watch them write and record and i always would ak him what he thought, Because he was the best.
What about concerts? Do you play live?
I do perform live and i try to get on every show possible i have a mixture of music so i can switch it up.
Best punchline you ever wrote?
”My music is amazing making me everything i wish to be, Flyest without a wing the american dream, Its a Bird Its A Plane……….Naw its just me..
What are you currently working on? Did you release something in the past?
I actually just finished up ”MusicTrapT” my mixtape set to release on the 1st, I released my single on it ”Keep” and had 6k plays in its 1st week, I also have my Album (The Wilson Project) is about 40% Done just gotta record it Set To Release In March, My next mixtape will have 4-5 more parts to it and that will release in june 2015. I have 3 music videos on MusicTrapT, 3 Videos On The Wilson Project and 4 videos on Blake’s Tape Part One. So i have a lineup in 2015 just ready to take off.
Last but not least: Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
I would sign a deal, Not because of money but because i spent 23 years building my name building my empire in music i know what im capable of doing in this business all i need is to be pushed in the right directions. Cons of signing one they take control of your creativity im not with it hopefully i can have a say in that aspect of it! But the pros are you have a shoulder to lean on a AR to go to everything there for you.
Any last words?
1st Is God for letting me follow threw my music career and actually do the thing! 2nd is my brother Brandon he seen me come up from the bottom in music and witnessed my grind all the way threw. 3rd My family they have been on my side since day 1! My Fiance as been there thick n thin in my music and she actually slept at the studio because i wasn’t ready to leave. 4th My producer on every track AJ FAshow! for bringing BLAKE WILSON out on everytrack and making it sound good so shout out to 5 Star Money Tree! Shout Out Lansing Michigan And the artist out here its us vs the world!
