Below is a short interview with the upcoming underground artist Dre-Key the Ghetto Millionaire.
How did you decide to become an artist?
Dre-Key the Ghetto Millionaire: I’ve been doin’ talent shows and wat-not since I was like five, but really I grew up wanting to write books until I got in them streets. After that, I didn’t do too much school, so I gave up on the writing thang. Then I ran into some of my homeboys doin’ little mix-tapes at the house, and I knew this the way to express myself. I dropped my first mix-tape like 2 days later.

What about concerts? Do you play live?
I’m booking every show I can get on and I’m guaranteed to crank that thang for a lil’ piece of change.
Best punchline you ever wrote?
”…cause ain’t half these rappers out here hard as me, the other half is just as bad, they ain’t smart as me. And when ya’ hard and ya’ smart than ya’ hard to beat, the hardest, smartest artist out here, Lawd its me!”
What are you currently working on? Did you release something in the past?
I have several singles selling world-wide on iTunes, Beats Music, CD Baby, Spotify and all other digital outlets, including ”I Got That”, ”This Wat I Do”, ”I Cut Fa’ Ya’” ft. Paul Wall, and ”My Thots Define Me” ft. K-Rino. The underground version of my project ”Taking Control” is available now on Datpiff.com and the official version goes world-wide in September.
Last but not least: Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
I’ve been fiercely independent since day one, but at this point I would sign a deal if the right terms were agreed upon. I have a song where I say…”If Sony ain’t got fo’ mill, Sony ain’t got no deal.” This was not meant to be aimed directly at Sony or any deal we may or may not have been negotiating, it was just my way of saying I know what I’m worth and if I sign a deal it will be a power deal, not a sucker deal. I’d rather have a whole little pie to myself than a smaller piece of a bigger pie. Some people sign just so they can say they signed, but the numbers don’t add up. If and when I do sign, you best believe the numbers will be right.
